The word Pragyan has different
meanings in different eastern philosophical traditions. Even in
ancient Indian texts, it seems that its meaning can vary depending
on the context. With all the variations, there is a significant
amount of unanimity when we interpret
Pragyan as the state of wisdom
or an evolved, refined and subtle intelligence. It is this wisdom
that is essential when individuals who occupy positions of power
and influence, make decisions and take actions, that can alter the
course of organization’s/institution’s or team’s history and can
create new possibilities.
In a rapidly changing and complex world, corporations are
interconnected through business, financial, political and social
systems. Leaders are exposed to a multitude of opinion, facts and
data and are required to take a call on variety of issues.
Technology, data, and scale allows and many a times forces leaders
to live life on a rollercoaster where speed is of essence and
outcomes needed to be delivered by cutting through the gargantuan
maze of distractions and demands.
In such a situation, its not just sufficient to be sharp and quick
with respect to intellect and meaning making, an essential and
differentiated capability is to appreciate and comprehend the
subtler dimensions that are not so apparent and obvious. To tap
into this nature of intelligence which is deep, interconnected and
truly progressive, requires integrative approach to development
with an expansive orientation.
Pragyan is the key that gives us
an opportunity to manifest this intelligence which is holistic and
therefore humanistic.
